Song Of The Day: "Your Love" by Moko

Brand new female singer of song ALERT! Although that's not really true, Moko didn't really make an impact on me until this new song came out. Previously, this British soul trip-hop singer had been featured on a couple Chase & Status songs that brought her some fame before releasing her Black EP last year. In all honesty, her look was a little too fabulous for her older slinky production. Really, those puffy pigtails are the best things on a singer's head at the moment so Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj really need to up their game.

As you can tell, Moko has finally found her sound and damn is it not FIERCE!?!?! "Your Love" is the first song off her new Gold EP (I see that Sam Sparro reference girl) and it is definitely a statement piece. It's a fresh 90's House banger that would have been a perfect soundtrack to any scene from Paris Is Burning. I'm sure it will be playing on repeat in all the vogue houses and we will be sure to see some sickening scenes played out to this tune in the coming year. Personally, it would be amazing if the next wave of music sounded like this because there is nothing better than vogueing your heart out in the privacy of your bedroom. You better work, Moko, to make that happen.

Song Of The Day: "Can't Get Enough" by Becky G feat. Pitbull

josepvinaixa.com

Becky G is one of the surprise stars of this summer. If you haven't heard her Dr. Luke produced Top 20 hit "Shower" then you're really out of it aren't you? Granted I hadn't heard of it until I randomly turned on the radio and the "La Da Dee La Da Da LA DA DA" part had me singing along before I knew it. I was surprised to hear it was Becky G singing, mainly because she was only slightly familiar. After a quick search on my iTunes, I realized how I knew her. Becky helped BFF Cher Lloyd on single "Oath" as well as put a spin on Ke$ha's "Die Young". I dismissed her as a wannabe Disney rapper but I quickly realized there is a lot more to her than that.

Aside from Shower, Becky G has made some smart moves and decided to release "Can't Get Enough" as her newest single, even if it is only on Latin radio right now. The collaboration with elusive rapper Pitbull was actually released last year, but that funky horn melody fits right into the saxophone revival happening this summer. It's already topped the Latin Radio Airplay Chart! Furthermore, Becky's raps are insanely infectious and rhyming "caliente" with "differente" and "back to the fronte" is something beyond Lil Kim and M.I.A's abilities. As for Pitbull... It's a really fun song isn't it? Right, let's watch the fun colorful video and sing to the newest summer anthem on the block.

Song Of The Day: "Boum Boum Boum" by MIKA

MIKA is looking FIERCE!
I've said this many times before: there just aren't that many great male popstars. I won't bore you with the typical examples of R&B singers like Usher or soul singers like Sam Smith who crush the game but lack the material that really hooks you in. The first singer to really capture the fun and vibrance that most female popstars naturally possess was MIKA. Winner of the BBC Sound of 2007 Poll, MIKA was like nothing we had ever heard before. Songs like Grace Kelly, Big Girl, and Blame It On The Girls show his quirky style of music, and pairing up with Ariana Grande before it was cool just proves he can stay ahead of almost any trend in pop culture (take that Zooey Deschanel).

After his rather pleasant third album came out around 2012, MIKA swerved once again to make an Italian language album, covering many classics and charting across Europe. Now that it's 2014, MIKA has decided to continue his multilingual adventure and created this new original French single "Boum Boum Boum." A euphemism that transcends language, the song shows that MIKA's voice has never sounded better than en français and the addition of the sultry female background vocals elevates the song to dizzying heights. The French Alps perhaps? Please let this be the beginning of a French language album MIKA!
