This is a really great debut single from production duo Favorite Child, who are reported to have worked Tove Lo, Icona Pop, and Erik Hassle. So they know a thing or two about "pop music."
"Just Wanna Belong" is a funky pop rock number that throws in a soulful vocal and a great brassy bit after the chorus hits. Those vocals come from Erik Rapp, a cute young Swedish singer who has a history with Swedish Idol and came out with a really great single last year called "Available." On "Just Wanna Belong", Erik is really channeling the greats with an equally sassy and romantic kiss off about monogamy.
This would have made a great Bruno Mars single. Come to think of it, this would have been the perfect debut single for Harry Styles!!! Though there is no official release for the song just yet, it seems to be one of best growers in the pop sphere right now.
Best Bit: The way Erik sings "Now I know I don't wanna go out with someone new", where the "new" has so much attitude packed into it, Michael Jackson could take some notes from it.
